Why did you attend an HBCU?
I decided to attend an HBCU so that I could obtain a top-notch education, be surrounded by a supportive atmosphere and community, to embrace the diversity, pride 5. Alumni Support and Networking 6. Supportive faculty
What were some of your favorite moments during your HBCU experience?
Graduating in 4 years as student athlete on the Deans List . Becoming Mr.JCSU and being able to support my local Charlotte community in a real way. Ways such as prepping and feeding the homeless , volunteering with local children shelter during my undergrad summers and representing my alma mater @ city Council meetings. Being the introduction speaker for Oprah Winfrey at the 2015 JCSU commencement ceremony. Studying abroad for two weeks in Dominican republic. Student liaison for DEF jam records to Johnson C. Smith University.
Why should students attend HBCUs?
There are no other institutions or colleges built on the grounds for helping freed slaves. The only institutions of achievement and higher education for African-Americans.
How did your HBCU experience prepare you for the real world?
It afforded me the ability to understand the pride and dedication it takes to survive in the real world. A HBCU gives you the fortitude to understand that you’re as equal as your counterpart no matter ones race.
How did you prepare to go to college? How should prospective students prepare to go to an HBCU?
I’m prepared to go to college by getting the highest score on the SAT and the highest GPA possible while in high school. Perspective HBCU students should mentally get prepared to be around like minded individuals of the same complexion that are striving for greatness . To be able to achieve and become all of what are people ( african-Americans ) fought so hard to become.
